POSITION SUMMARY:

As the Group Exercise Instructor, you will work directly under the Fitness Center Director, contributing to the growth of our Health and Wellness department while supervising dynamic Group Exercise Programs at the Ridgewood YMCA. Your efforts will ensure these programs not only reflect the YMCA’s core values but also effectively meet the diverse needs of our members and the wider community, enhancing their overall well-being.

JOB FUNCTION:
· Work with the Health and Wellness Director to develop the needs of the Group Exercise Program.
· Create a positive working environment which encourages and motivates others to become more involved in the YMCA. Plan and implement new classes, employing new music and choreography to maintain member interest. Creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; build relationships with and among members and program participants.
· Maintain and evaluate the current Group Exercise equipment, reporting the needs of the program to the Health and Wellness Director
· Demonstrate proper form/technique and verbally cue members; correct form is necessary
· Set-up, store, and secure equipment upon completion of class. Keeps accurate class attendance records.
· The Group Exercise Instructor will maintain their certifications and stay current with exercise techniques
· Asks and answers questions and displays empathy in support of helping member and program participants build confidence to achieve their health and wellness goals.
· Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
· Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
· Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
