Job Summary
The City of Bellevue’s Parks and Community Services Department is seeking an experienced fitness professional to lead fitness programs at South Bellevue Community Center. The Fitness Supervisor will be responsible for the daily operations of the fitness center and programs at South Bellevue Community Center at Eastgate Park. This includes hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff, manage relationships with contracted fitness program providers, implement and evaluate program activities, and drive engagement in the fitness center and programs to meet revenue and participation goals by building an effective set of programs, providing excellent customer service and supporting effective marketing.
The South Bellevue Community is a 33,000 sf facility featuring a fitness center, dance studio, two full gymnasiums, two classrooms, banquet room, indoor climbing wall, and challenge course and ziplines. Programs are focused on active lifestyles, health and wellness, which are balanced with a variety of general recreation programs and events.
In addition to their work at South Bellevue Community Center, the position will serve as the Parks and Community Services Subject Matter Expert on fitness and wellness and provide guidance to other recreation facilities on a variety of fitness related matters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide supervision for fitness related activities and support the community center’s operation:
- Manage the daily operations of the SBCC Fitness Center with an emphasis on professionalism, cost effectiveness, efficiency, cleanliness, developing fitness policies and procedures, exceptional customer service and education, work plans, timelines, goals, and outcomes for meeting and exceeding industry standards.
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate and maintain positive relationships with fitness center full and part time staff and contracted instructors and personal trainers.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures association with the fitness center and program operations, safety, cleanliness, preventative maintenance and equipment replacement.
- Assist with overall facility and program coverage as needed during scheduled and unscheduled staff time-off.
- Contribute to a positive workplace culture by demonstrating collaborative engagement with coworkers, contractors and partners and through proactive planning and communication with appropriate stakeholders.
- Effectively lead and supervise fitness programming:
- Develop, plan, promote, implement, review and evaluate a wide range of fitness and wellness programs.
- Encourage a culture of innovation for fitness programs through data collection and analysis, responding to community needs, keeping current on industry trends, and participating in continuing education to maintain required certifications.
- Serve as the fitness subject matter expert for Parks & Community Services Department programs and facilities as requested or directed. Lead department initiatives related to active lifestyle, health and wellness. Convene and lead a department fitness and wellness team that meets on a regular basis to coordinate fitness and wellness efforts across community centers and parks programs.
- May teach fitness classes or provide instruction for programming as schedule allows.
- Lead fitness-related marketing efforts for South Bellevue Community Center and special city-wide fitness initiatives:
- Develop creative marketing strategies, presentation and promotional materials to attract new participants. Create social media content, digital and print signage, and support city-wide marketing efforts.
- Develop and refine processes for management of fitness program sales; provide materials and direction to support in-person, online and phone sales of programs.
- Responsibly and proactively manages the fitness program budget:
- Work with the Center manager to build and refine a fitness program budget.
- Track revenue, expenditures, retention rates, participation numbers to be proactive in meeting budgetary goals.
- Manage the equipment replacement plan and budget and work with procurement services for acquisition.
- Working within the Parks & Community Services pricing guidelines, develop pricing structures for fitness programs.
- Explore grant and other funding opportunities to expand or enhance existing programs and services to increase access to programs and services to members of underrepresented populations.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
- The Fitness Supervisor works under the supervision of the South Bellevue Community Center Manager.
- The position supervises one FTE staff and 4-6 part-time staff.
- The position manages relationships with contract fitness instructors and trainers.
