Job Description

 

The Sterling Center YMCA is seeking a Nationally Certified or Degreed Trainer to work independently with clients in either a private, semi private or small group personal training setting. Candidates must have the ability to evaluate client needs, develop plans, implement and lead integrated individualized and small group exercise programs for clients at all levels, with a broad range of fitness, and rehabilitation techniques. The Personal Trainer supports and motivates their clients to exercise, and encourages them to live a healthier lifestyle. In addition to training, fitness floor hours are required.

The incumbent for this role will have excellent customer service skills and strong work ethic, a motivational demeanor and attitude with a results driven focus on client health and wellness.

Essential Functions:

  1. Deliver a high quality member and program participant experience by providing hands-on instruction and personal training for individuals and small groups.

  2. Work individually with clients, assessing and evaluating health & history to determine appropriate individual exercise program ultimately achieving their physical fitness goals.

  3. Properly progress and advance individual programs based on fitness goals and capabilities considering post-rehabilitative goals and recommendations from medical providers/therapists.

  4. Ensure clients are performing exercises correctly to minimize injuries and maximize potential for ongoing engagement.

  5. Perform exercise demonstrations and machine overviews for clients on the fitness floor recommending modifications for varying levels of ability. Provide fitness floor supervision engaging members and maintaining cleanliness and functioning

  6. Help members achieve their fitness goals and manage systems to track progress and communicate with members providing motivation and accountability.

  7. Maintain and grow client base through sale of personal training packages.

  8. Perform all other duties as directed for the overall success of the organization.
     
     
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in physical education or related field preferred.

At least one year of experience providing results driven and

Certification from a nationally recognized agency such as ACE, AFFA, ASCM, NSCA, and NSPA.

Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously.

Professional manner, discretion, and professional appearance

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Awareness of proper body mechanics to prevent injury and ability to assess and modify client movements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading classes and activities, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.

Must be able to lift 45-pound weight plates.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to listen, hear, and discern members & program participants wants, needs and interests.

Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

Ability to demonstrate equipment use for exercise training
