Who We Are:

The Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, (MAPMG) is one of the nation's premier multispecialty medical groups and is the largest integrated medical group in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Founded in 1980, the medical group has more than 1,700 Permanente physicians spanning more than 50 subspecialties. Together, we serve approximately 800,000 Kaiser Permanente members in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia at 34 area medical centers, plus several community hospitals and skilled nursing facilities.

Job Summary:

MAPMG is seeking a  Group Fitness Specialist, Yoga Classes to join our Health Engagement team. The Group Fitness Specialist, Yoga Classes, will be responsible for quality fitness programming, instruction, and superior member services. The Fitness Specialist is responsible for continuous high-quality customer service, which includes, but is not limited to, meeting internal and external customer needs, and presenting a positive attitude toward Kaiser Permanente, its staff, and its programs. This position is benefit ineligible.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that both member and non-member needs are met through personal recognition, positive reinforcement and by providing fun, supportive and engaging industry leading group fitness classes.
  • Provides fitness instruction in accordance with certification standards and maintains a safe and enjoyable class atmosphere.
  • Designs components and choreography of, and incorporates environmentally appropriate music (if applicable) into the assigned exercise class.
  • Ensures that safety standards are met and that department and facility policies are adhered to.
  • Provides an organized and well-prepared class to maximize participant experience.
  • Arrives at least 15 minutes in advance of the scheduled class time to greet participants, answer questions and address concerns.
  • Maintains appropriate class documentation and submits in accordance with policy guidelines.
  • Adheres to substitution policies.
  • Understands and contributes to Kaiser Permanente's mission, to provide high quality, affordable health care to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve.
  • Assumes any other duties as assigned by the Program Director and Health Education Consultant
  • Understands and contributes to Kaiser Permanente and its mission.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent or GED
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Group Exercise is preferred.
  • Must have experience working with the Senior population.
  • National certification in Group Exercise, such as ACE, ACSM, AFAA or NETA
  • Must possess specialty certifications in accordance with selected class offerings in medical centers (i.e. Senior Fitness, Arthritis, Pilates, or yoga).
  • Must provide proof of self-insurance.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to Kaiser Permanente medical centers in the Baltimore area.
  • Must have some flexibility. Classes may occur during week day, evenings or weekends, class hours still to be determined.
  • Display strong motivation for community outreach and working with people.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and motivational skills.
  • Demonstrates commitment to a health and wellness lifestyle.
  • Should have a strong motivation to work positively with people in different populations, in groups, and individually to achieve health improvement goals.
  • Independent thinker who takes initiative to identify a substitute instructor within Kaiser Permanente Program when necessary.
