Do you have a passion for health and wellness? Do you enjoy seeing people achieve their personal fitness goals? Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director, Personal Trainers work both one-on-one and in groups with members and program participants to help people develop a healthy body and meet fitness goals. Utilizing fitness knowledge and experience, Personal Trainers act as fitness experts for YMCA members. In addition, supporting the Health and Wellness department, the incumbent will act as a fitness specialist by leading and coordinating Group Ex classes and overseeing the fitness floor during times of high volume to engage and encourage members in safe and healthy practices.

Essential Functions

  1. Deliver a high quality member and program participant experience by providing hands-on instruction and personal training for individuals and small groups.

  2. Work individually with clients, assessing and evaluating health & history to determine appropriate individual exercise program ultimately achieving their physical fitness goals.

  3. Properly progress and advance individual programs based on fitness goals and capabilities considering post-rehabilitative goals and recommendations from medical providers/therapists.

  4. Perform exercise demonstrations and machine overviews for clients on the fitness floor recommending modifications for varying levels of ability. Provide fitness floor supervision engaging members and maintaining cleanliness and functioning.

  5. Maintain and grow client base through sale of personal training packages.

  6. Perform all other duties as directed for the overall success of the organization.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

Must hold current nationally recognized personal training certification

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.

Must maintain CPR, First Aid and Personal Training Certification

Flexible schedule. Must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required.

This role is a 40 hour per week role and requires personal training, group ex class instruction or fitness floor direct service maintaining 35 hours per week.


Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading classes and activities, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.

Must be able to lift 45-pound weight plates

Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to listen, hear, and discern members & program participants wants, needs and interests.

Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

Ability to demonstrate equipment use for exercise training

Rate: Commensurate with Experience
